Herve Lambert Survived the war

Was transferred to the 315e in January 1916, where he would stay until September 1916 where he would be wounded at Thiaumont near Verdun.

During his time with the 315e he wrote many letters to his parents describing life in the trenches. Many of which I have translated and added to this website

Final “315e” fatalities

Mistaken Regiment identity and a “disparu” reappearing

Albert Leopold Sergent

Officially the last 315e soldiers to die according to records

One issue is that he been missing since 25/9/1915 at Auberive …

Gastion Blanchouin

Is next in line, but unfortunately there seems to be some mistaken regiment identity. Gastion is “Mort pour la France” on this certificate as being with the 315e RI.

Gastion actually died 7th October 1918 with the 115e RI

Two Wounded Soldiers

8th August 1916 Letter

Letter mentions two soldiers are wounded during German night raids

mais nous avons tout de même deux blessés

2e classe Albert Clement Veau – is highly like to be one of the two wounded. Albert record states he was wounded on the 8th August, most likely in the combat mentioned in the letter. Unfortunately for Albert he died the next day from his wounds in a field hospital near Braux-Sainte-Cohiere aged 31

First Casualty at Verdun

1st September 1916

Alphonse Vital Pilet 2e Classe
